Self Care Behind the Chair...7 Ways to Speak Kindly to Yourself...

Updated: Jan 5, 2023

Ever had a conversation where you're berating yourself by saying stupid, dumba%%, or anything negative under your breath because you made a mistake? Well, if you haven't heard, humans make mistakes. I jokingly like to remind my clients that even Beauty Artists are human (well sometimes haha).

Let's be real, people love to be heard, it's total textbook and human nature. Beauty Artists are known to be therapists in the salon, we listen to clients, friends, family, and even strangers all day. It's a gift that has been tattooed on our foreheads for everyone to spill the beans, or in this day in age, spill the tea. Being of English background, 'spilling the tea' is the last thing I literally want to do.

Your Self Care Behind the Chair Challenge is to create a new habit and mindset ritual. Personal growth equals personal success. First, let's start by letting go of perfectionism, I was told by a very wise person "that no one appreciates your perfectionism." At first, I was mortified and then it sunk in and my "Aha" moment enlightened me! Honestly, it was a ton of bricks lifted off my shoulders.

Here are 7 ways to speak kindly to yourself: I dare ya!

  • Go me! I showed up: whether it'd be work, gym, or just doing something for you.

  • Speak to yourself as you would your bestie. Positive words bring in good energy.

  • Congrats to yourself on the little things (working out, setting a boundary, speaking up).

  • Name your inner critic (mind is Walter) and remind your inner critic that perfectionism is a thing of the past and you're doing your best.

  • Look inside for affirmations, instead of outside of your spirit.

  • Believe you can learn something new even if you suck at it & be ok with that!

  • Practice makes progress, not perfectionism.
